MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.  Mindfulness is becoming a huge movement in the area of athlete performance.  Studies have found mindful practices can help lower stress levels, connect with the present moment, and create a more resilient mind.

Athletes training and competing mindfully have an improved awareness of what they are doing when preforming well, they learn the benefits of using breath work and the idea of letting thoughts come and go.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness helps athletes with:

  • Stress management

  • Overthinking

  • Recovery from mistakes

  • Focus-switching

  • Awareness of when to back off (trying too hard)

  • Awareness of when to turn the energy on

  • In some cases, simply having more compassion for oneself

MYP Athletes Training will teach you

  • Breathing techniques-helps with circulation throughout the body.

  • Guided Meditations

  • Visualization Meditation

  • Body Awareness

  • Thought Awareness

  • Reprogramming of our inner software

High performance psychologist Michael Gervais, who works with the Seahawks and with other teams in the NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL, defines mindfulness as "the practice of being present … a way of being connected to the present moment without judgment." He also describes it as an "awareness of how I'm doing within myself, how I'm engaging in my environment and the interplay of the two."

I truly believe in positive synergy, that your positive mindset gives you a more hopeful outlook, and belief that you can do something great means you will do something great.
